No trains through Brentford this weekend

Engineering work closes all railway lines via Brentford on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August. Buses replace trains between Feltham and Barnes via Brentford on both days, then between Twickenham and Barnes via Brentford after 1pm on Sunday. Allow extra time and check the National Rail engineering notice before setting out.

Kew cuts summer ticket prices

Kew Gardens has reduced entry prices until Tuesday 1 September: adult tickets are £21.85, tickets for under-16s are £1.75, under-fours go free, 16-to-29 tickets are £8.75 and entry after 4pm is £10. The August programme includes the Tom Gates EPIC Adventure until Monday 31 August, with family activities and a tree trail from 10am to 4.30pm.

The Bridge returns for its second weekend

Three more ticketed music days come to Boston Manor Park: Effy & Mall Grab present Fragrance on Friday 31 July, Innervisions follows on Saturday 1 August and Junction 2 closes the series on Sunday 2 August. Smashed brings juggling chaos to Bell Square

Nine performers, 100 apples and a very unusual tea party meet in Gandini Juggling's free 30-minute show. Both performances of Smashed at Bell Square are free and outdoors.

Paper-fan craft bookings open on Monday

Children aged four and over can make a paper fan at Brentford Community Hub and Library for 50p. Bookings open on Monday 3 August; contact the library through the paper-fan craft listing to reserve a place.

Thursday 27 August, 6-7pm

How steam engines helped clean up London

Author James Douet gives an illustrated talk on steam power, Victorian waterworks and the sanitary crisis at the London Museum of Water & Steam. Tickets are £5, or £3 for members, and advance booking is required for the out-of-hours talk.

Trees on Thursday, birds on Saturday, 10am-noon. Naturalist John Wells leads an in-depth tree walk at Gunnersbury Park this morning, while Sennan from the RSPB leads a bird-spotting walk on Saturday. Each guided session costs £6 and needs booking.

Friday 31 July and Saturday 1 August

Mamma Mia! and Shaun of the Dead outdoors, Doors 7pm; films at dusk. Picturehouse turns Gunnersbury Park Museum Gardens into an open-air cinema for Mamma Mia! on Friday and Shaun of the Dead on Saturday. Tickets are £20.85 and include a £7 food-and-drink credit; bring a blanket, cushion or small chair and check the Gunnersbury outdoor cinema programme.

Saturday 1 August

Walk from Boston Manor to Osterley, 11am-12.30pm. A free community walk leaves the front entrance of Boston Manor House at 11am and follows the Grand Union Canal towards Osterley Park. Arrive ten minutes early with suitable shoes and a drink; find the walk in the Boston Manor House programme.

Sunday 2 August

Middlesex Pride in Gunnersbury Park, Noon-6pm. Middlesex Pride brings a free, family-friendly celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community to Gunnersbury Park. Check the current official outdoor-events listing before travelling.

The Wind in the Willows at Kew, 11am. Ratty, Mole, Badger and Toad take over the lakeside in an interactive outdoor production for all ages. Tickets for The Wind in the Willows at Kew start at £20.90 and include garden entry.

Roadworks and Transport

Great West Road lane closure: A lane closure is in place on Great West Road until late on Tuesday 4 August for electricity-network work. Allow extra time on journeys through the area.

Lionel Road South remains closed: Network Rail's closure of Lionel Road South is due to continue until 5pm on Friday 7 August. Use an alternative route around Kew Bridge and the stadium.

More signals on Boston Manor Road: Multi-way temporary lights are due on Boston Manor Road from midnight on Monday 3 August until late on Wednesday 5 August for Openreach work. Delays are likely while the signals are in place.

Syon Lane closes on Tuesday: Syon Lane is scheduled to close from 8am to 6pm on Tuesday 4 August for telecoms work. Follow the signed diversion and allow extra time.

Rear extension proposed in Church Walk: Prior approval has been requested for a single-storey rear extension at 2 Church Walk. The plans put it at 4.5 metres deep, up to 4 metres high and 3 metres at the eaves. See Hounslow record PA/2026/2167.
