Creative Mile opens more than 130 artists' doors

Brentford's free art trail begins on Friday evening and continues all weekend, with more than 130 artists and makers showing work in studios, museums, churches, cafés and riverside spaces. A new Art on Your Doorstep partnership brings life-size National Gallery reproductions outside too. Plan your Creative Mile route for 6–9pm on Friday 4 September or 11am–5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Brentford welcome Sunderland on Saturday

The Bees play Sunderland at the Gtech Community Stadium at 2pm on Saturday 5 September. Lionel Road and the Kew Bridge area will be busy before and after the match; check the official Brentford fixtures for any late changes.

Free walk links Boston Manor and Osterley

A guided community walk leaves Boston Manor Park at 11am on Saturday 5 September and heads to Osterley Park, finishing at 12.30pm. The walk is free; see the Boston Manor House programme before setting out.

Friday 11 September, 6–9pm

New art exhibition opens at Boston Manor House

Alec Boreham and Francesco Vitali open Floating Architectural Spaces with a free drinks reception. Their drawings, prints and interactive installations respond to Boston Manor House and its architecture; reserve a place through the exhibition opening page. The show then runs Tuesday to Sunday, noon–5pm, until Sunday 25 October.

Sunday 20 September, 2.30pm

Flying Scotsman returns with a live Wurlitzer score

The Musical Museum screens the 1929 silent railway thriller with Donald MacKenzie improvising its score on the Mighty Wurlitzer. Adult tickets cost £15 and child tickets £8 for the 2.30–5pm performance; book Flying Scotsman in advance.

Saturday 19 September, 10am–5pm

Isleworth's Quaker meeting house opens its doors

Explore the Georgian meeting house and grounds on a free open day, with displays, activities and self-guided visits. Drop-in entry needs no booking; see the meeting house calendar for the latest programme.

Friday 4 September

The Musical Museum joins Creative Mile after hours, 6–9pm. See work by more than 15 artists and makers, hear live music and find National Gallery reproductions in the museum grounds. Entry to the collection and instrument demonstrations is free during the Creative Mile opening night.

Saturday 5 September

Eurydyka brings fire and theatre to Bell Square, 8pm. Polish company Teatr Biuro Podróży stages its outdoor retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth in Bell Square, Hounslow. The performance begins at 8pm; check the Watermans calendar for final event information.

Monday 7 September

Dementia Café meets at Boston Manor House, 2.30–4pm. People living with dementia and their carers can meet for a free afternoon session at Boston Manor House. Check the current programme before travelling.

Thursday 10 September

Brentford Library's book club returns, 2–3.30pm. Adults can share their latest reads at the free monthly book club at Brentford Community Hub and Library, 11F Boston Manor Road. Ask library staff to join, using the contact details on the book-club page.

Roadworks and Transport

Chesterfield Road works from Monday: Priority working is due on Chesterfield Road from Monday 7 to Friday 18 September for council work.

Boston Road signals from Tuesday: Two-way temporary lights are planned on Boston Road from Tuesday 8 to Friday 11 September for Thames Water work.

Harewood Road signals from Wednesday: Multi-way temporary lights are due on Harewood Road from Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 September for Openreach work.

Community Notice

Storytime restarts after the school holidays

Brentford Library's free Thursday Storytime for children aged five and under resumes after Monday 7 September. Sessions run from 10.30am to 11am during term time, with no booking needed; see the Storytime information.
