Studley traffic-calming scheme is back for a second bid

Derry Hill and Studley Parish Council is preparing another funding bid for a £40,800 Studley traffic-calming scheme after last year's application missed the cut. The plan covers five village entrances and includes coloured road surfacing, 20mph roundels, granite-sett thresholds, nameplates, planters and a pedestrian crossing point near Studley Lane. The finance committee will consider how much parish CIL money to commit at Lansdowne Hall on Monday 29 June at 7.30pm; the traffic-calming report has the full proposals.

New bridge completed at Pewsham Locks

Volunteers have finished a red-brick bridge at the top of the Pewsham lock flight after around three years of work. It will eventually give vehicle access to a restored dry dock and a carpenter's workshop. The public can see the restoration on Saturday 11 July, when the site plans guided tours, boat trips and a pop-up café; Calne News has the project story.

Thursday 25 June

Coffee and Chat at Christ Church, 10.30am-noon. Drop into Christ Church, Derry Hill for its informal weekly coffee morning. Everyone is welcome, with no booking needed; see the Christ Church events page.

Friday 26 June

Crafternoon at Christ Church, 2-4pm. Bring your own craft activity for a sociable afternoon at Christ Church, Derry Hill. The session runs every Friday.

Saturday 27 June

Love Calne Market, 8.30am-2.30pm. The town-centre market runs through the morning and early afternoon before the carnival starts. The current entry is on the Calne events calendar.

Calne Summer Carnival, 1-6pm. Calne's main summer carnival fills Saturday afternoon, making it the biggest nearby family event this weekend. The direct event page confirms the date and times.

Sunday 28 June

Junior parkrun and Park Yoga, 8.50am and 9.30am. Calne Recreation Ground has junior parkrun for ages 4 to 14 at 8.50am, followed by Park Yoga from 9.30am to 10.30am. Register before a first parkrun visit and bring a barcode.

Roadworks and Transport

Beversbrook Road evening closure continues: The Beversbrook Road closure is scheduled to remain in place until Friday 10 July as the wider A3102 improvement works continue around Beversbrook Road and Stanier Road. Allow extra time on Calne approaches.

Lodge Road signals from Friday: Two-way temporary signals are due on Lodge Road from Friday 26 June to Wednesday 8 July for Scottish and Southern Power Distribution work. This is worth allowing for on trips towards Sandy Lane and Bowood.

A342 signals south of Derry Hill next week: Wessex Water is due to use two-way signals on the A342 between Derry Hill and Wans House from Monday 29 to Tuesday 30 June. Short delays are possible on the Devizes route.

Wicks Drive closes for water work: Wicks Drive in Calne is due to close from Monday 29 to Tuesday 30 June for Wessex Water work. Use an alternative local route while the closure is active.

Try handbell ringing in Derry Hill

Christ Church's handbell group meets on Tuesday 30 June from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. No experience is needed and newcomers can try it for £2; the church events page has the current entry.
