A new Sunday gathering starts in Derry Hill

The Curious Club brings adults together at the Lansdowne Arms for relaxed conversation and a different theme each month. The first Derry Hill gathering runs from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Sunday 6 September and costs £8; find out about The Curious Club.

Six days of films and a director Q&A

Chippenham Film Festival runs from Tuesday 8 to Sunday 13 September at Reel Cinema and the Old Road Tavern. Five screenings include Underland followed by a live director Q&A, plus there is a soundtrack listening night; see the full festival programme. A festival pass costs £35, with individual film tickets also available.

South African braai at Bowood

The Shelburne Restaurant hosts a South African-inspired barbecue evening with a Rooibos welcome drink, a buffet and live music. Tickets cost £35 per person; book the Bowood braai in advance.

Friday 4 September

Chart hits get a 1950s rock-and-roll twist, 6.30-11pm. Saint Six turn modern chart songs into 1950s-style rock and roll at The Ruze on Union Road in Chippenham. The show is for ages 16 and over, and tickets cost £15; see the Saint Six show information.

Saturday 5 September

Explore Wiltshire folklore through the archives, 11am-noon. The Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre in Chippenham opens up original documents for a creative session about Wiltshire folklore. There are 15 places and advance booking by email is required; see the Treasures from History session.

Free darkwave live music in Calne, 7.30pm. Marlborough alternative duo Deadlight Dance play gothic and darkwave-influenced music at The Dog House Tap Room on Maundrell Road. Entry is free; check the Deadlight Dance event information.

Thursday 10 September

Free parent-and-child group starts in Chippenham, 10.30am-12.30pm. Home-Start Wiltshire's term-time group at The Olympiad offers a quieter, supportive setting with free snacks and activities for parents with children under five. Booking is essential and childminders cannot attend; see the parent-and-child group information.

Circus Ginnett opens at Monkton Park, 6.30pm. Circus Ginnett brings its family-run big-top show and international performers to Chippenham. Thursday's performance starts at 6.30pm, with further shows through Sunday 13 September; tickets cost £8. Roadworks and Transport

Sandy Lane stop-and-go boards through Friday: Stop-and-go boards are scheduled on the A3102 at Sandy Lane, between Back Lane and the entrance to Tossels Farm, through Friday 4 September for Wiltshire Council roadworks.

Old Derry Hill roadworks from Monday: Stop-and-go boards are scheduled on two stretches of Old Derry Hill from Monday 7 to Wednesday 9 September for Wiltshire Council roadworks.

Churchill Close controls next week: Give-and-take traffic control is scheduled on Churchill Close in Calne from Monday 7 to Friday 11 September for water-network work.
