Walnuts Leisure Centre is open againThe Walnuts Leisure Centre is back in regular use after its £17m refurbishment. The renewed centre has a new competition-length pool and training pool, an expanded two-level gym, refreshed sports hall, new reception and cafe areas, a children’s splash wall, sauna and steam room, and improved accessibility including a Poolpod lift. Eligible children and young people aged 5 to 16 can book activities including sport, arts and crafts, cooking, coding, drama, music, dance and games, with a meal included at sessions. Friday 10 July Pop In at The Walnuts Community Hub, 10am-noon. Hope Church's weekly Pop In group for people aged 50+ meets at The Community Hub, Units 7-9, The Walnuts Centre. The morning includes tea, coffee, cake, games, quizzes, speakers and entertainment in the programme. It costs £3, with first visits free. Check the Pop In details. Saturday 11 July Orpington parkrun at Goddington Park, 9am. Walk, jog or run the free weekly 5k at Goddington Park. Register before your first visit and bring a scannable barcode if you want a timed result. Check the course and registration details. Wildflower walk in Petts Wood and Hawkwood, 10:30am-noon. The National Trust’s free Wildflowers and Plants walk explores the plants growing in Petts Wood and Hawkwood. Meet at the woods entrance through the Hazelmere Road underpass, BR5 1NZ; booking is not needed, supervised children are welcome, and sturdy footwear is advised for uneven woodland tracks. Local covers group Under the Influence play hits from the 50s onwards at Orpington Liberal Club, with support from The Two Jills. Leesons Hill closure runs into the weekend: The gas-works road closure on Leesons Hill is scheduled to continue until Friday 10 July, with related works in the area running to Monday 13 July. Allow extra time around St Paul’s Cray and follow local diversion signs. Ethelbert Road remains closed for gas works: Ethelbert Road is scheduled to stay closed for gas works until Friday 31 July. Nearby routes may be busier while the closure is in place. Signals and closures around Petts Wood and Orpington: Two-way signals are scheduled on Windsor Drive until Friday 10 July, and Morley Road is scheduled to close until Friday 10 July.
