Tell the council what local parks need

Bromley’s annual parks survey is open until Friday 4 September. Residents and park users can comment on green spaces across the borough, including maintenance, play areas and what should be prioritised. Complete the parks survey.

Dog-control consultation closes on Monday

The consultation on Bromley’s dog-control order closes on Monday 27 July. The proposals would keep the rules on fouling, leads, play areas and the four-dog walking limit, and would also exclude dogs from cemeteries. Read the proposals and respond.

Summer holiday clubs start next week

Bromley’s Holiday Activities and Food programme runs from Monday 27 July to Friday 28 August. Eligible children and young people aged 5 to 16 can book sport, arts, cooking, coding, drama, music, dance and other sessions, with a meal included. Check eligibility and book a HAF place.

See inside Scadbury Moated Manor

The normally closed moated site in Scadbury Park opens for a free weekend. Follow a self-guided trail around the excavations and see the foundations of the Tudor kitchens and great hall; last entry is at 4:30pm and donations are welcome. Plan a visit to the manor.

Nathan Persad and Highly Strung Duo, 7:30pm-10:30pm. Nathan Persad and Highly Strung Duo bring two sets of 1960s covers and more to Orpington Liberal Club, with short floor spots before the main acts. The suggested cash contribution for the performers is £7; entry to the club is free for OLC and CAMRA members and £1 for other guests. See the Friday live-music details.

Saturday 25 July

Orpington parkrun at Goddington Park, 9am. Walk, jog or run the free weekly 5k at Goddington Park. Register before your first visit and bring a scannable barcode if you want a timed result; the mixed grass and gravel course can be uneven. Check the course and travel details.

Tuesday 28 July

Beating the Bounds at St Paul’s Cray Common, 10am-11:30am. Join a free guided walk along part of an old parish boundary, crossing National Trust land, Willett Wood and St Paul’s Cray Common while learning about the changing landscape and local wildlife surveys. Meet by the Rangers Cottage gate, BR7 6RA; booking is not needed, supervised children are welcome and sturdy footwear is advised. Check the walk and meeting point.

Wednesday 29 July

Amelia Street and Colin Brunton in the garden, 6:50pm-9pm. Local acoustic duo Amelia Street play original songs, stripped-back favourites and covers in Orpington Liberal Club’s garden, with a support set from singer and guitarist Colin Brunton and early floor spots. The suggested cash contribution for the performers is £6; club entry is free for OLC and CAMRA members and £1 for other guests. See the garden music details.

Roadworks and Transport

Chelsfield Lane is closed today: Chelsfield Lane is scheduled to close from 7am to 7pm on Thursday 23 July. Multi-way signals are then planned from 9:30am to 3pm on Friday 24 July.

Bucks Cross Road closes for the weekend: Bucks Cross Road is scheduled to close from 6pm on Friday 24 July until 6pm on Sunday 26 July for power-network works. Follow local diversion signs around Chelsfield.

Ethelbert Road and Gravel Pit Way remain closed: The gas-works closure on Ethelbert Road is scheduled to continue until Wednesday 5 August, while Gravel Pit Way is scheduled to stay closed for water works until Friday 31 July. Nearby routes may be busier.

Closures start on Star Lane and Poverest Road: Star Lane is scheduled to close from Monday 27 July until Friday 14 August. Poverest Road is then due to close from 7am on Thursday 30 July until 6pm on Sunday 2 August. Check the Bromley roadworks map before setting out.
