Calne Morrisons Post Office closes on Saturday

The Post Office inside Morrisons Daily in Phelps Parade, Calne, closes permanently on Saturday 8 August, when the store also shuts. Until another Calne town-centre option is confirmed, the nearest alternatives are at Spar on James Avenue and Quemerford; read the closure update.

Free skate coaching returns on Tuesday

Children aged five to 16 can get free skateboard or scooter coaching, equipment hire, games and competitions at Calne Skate Bowl from 2.30pm to 5.30pm on Tuesday 11 August. The session is part of the summer-holiday programme.

Calne festival tickets are now on sale

Tickets have opened for October's Calne Music & Arts Festival, with paid performances bookable until two hours before they begin if places remain. The programme also includes free events at Marden House and St Mary's Church; browse the festival tickets and free events.

Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August

Wiltshire Game & Country Fair at Bowood, 10am-6pm. The two-day outdoor show has arena displays, dog agility and gun-dog trials, have-a-go fishing and axe throwing, craft workshops, cookery demonstrations, food stalls, live music and fairground rides. Tickets cost £25 for adults, £24 for over-65s and £8 for children aged five to 15; book the country fair. Entry to Bowood House & Gardens is separate.

Saturday 8 August

Guided summer garden tour at Bowood, Arrive 10am; tour 10.30am-noon. A 90-minute guided walk explores the terrace gardens and four-acre Walled Garden, with late roses and the kitchen garden in focus. Adult tickets are £24.45 and over-60s tickets are £21.85; places are limited to 25 and must be booked in advance. Expect gravel paths, steps and limited seating.

Sunday 9 August

Calne Recreation Ground junior parkrun, Arrive 8.50am for 9am. Children aged four to 14 can take part in the free weekly 2k event at the Recreation Ground on Anchor Road. Register before a first visit and bring a scannable barcode; check the junior parkrun information.

Tuesday 11 August

Calne Carer Café, 10.30am-noon. Unpaid carers can chat, relax and meet others at the Lansdowne Strand Hotel. The monthly gathering is run by Carers Together Wiltshire; see the Calne Carer Café details.

Thursday 13 August

Spanish Conversation Club pub night, 7.30-9.30pm. Practise Spanish in an informal social evening at the Lansdowne Hotel bar on The Strand. The venue is child-friendly and dog-friendly, and food is available from the bar menu; see the conversation club information.

Roadworks and Transport

A4 closure near Pewsham starts Monday: The A4 is scheduled to close south-east of Pewsham Roundabout towards the A342 from 9.30am to 3pm on Monday 10, Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 August for Wiltshire Council work. Allow extra time and follow the signed diversion.

Porte Marsh Road closes overnight: Porte Marsh Road in Calne is scheduled to close from 7pm to 6am each night from Tuesday 11 August, with work continuing beyond this issue's window. Use another route for evening and early-morning journeys.

Silver Street signals through Friday: Two-way temporary signals are scheduled on Silver Street in Calne on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 August for Wessex Water work. Allow extra time on town-centre journeys.
